Aran Islands Sunday

So my visit to the Islands was WAY different from my group! We got up early took a bus to the ferry and a ferry to the Island. The idea was to bike around said island. I had been uber nervous about this cause its been a while since I rode a bike and I'm not in shape. So the hills were gonna kill me. To start off I got separated from the group after we got our bikes. Not a big deal. I get going feeling better about it all and then BAM get hit by some girl on a bike coming down a small hill. She did not even brake at all. So I basically get slammed to the ground and my bike falls hard on me. I did not brace my ball with my hands so i ended up with gravel in my right knee and it bruised pretty bad and swollen. I get helped up by two irish girls and try to bike it off. After having a little cry. However my knee is killing me after a bit when I catch up.

Long story short I end up leaving the group and doing the bus tour, it was the same cost as the bike rental. It was so fun I met some really nice Canadian and Australian couples. We went to a stone age fort, saw thatch roof houses the only two original ones left on the island, and tried to see seals. It was high tide so no go on that. I did help a french lady explain to Joe our driver what she wanted. I had no idea what she was saying cause i did not know the french word for seal. I guessed and used chien de la mer... Ie dog of the sea and was able to get that she wanted to go to the seals one way not both ways. It was an awesome I felt so accomplished my french teacher would be so proud!

So after a nice visit I had a local breaded fish burger and a coke with chips and paprika mayo! It was so good that I did not care that I paid 2 euro for a coke. I did have a random cat who sat with me as I ate by myself. I guess he thought I needed protection.

But it was a good day and a loooong bus ride back to the Dublin! No one wanted to go to work on monday.

The boat we took is on the right in this picture.

Only two thatched roof homes left.

My battle wound after cleaning and gravel getting picked out.

Other than bike and bus you could take a carriage. I just petted the horsey!

land around the fort

The long walk to the top my knee killed but I would be damned if I did not see it!

Over the edge...

A view from the fort at the cliff that people dive from... nuts!

Me in the fort

Pretty views

In the fort again! this is the innermost wall that is left.

countryside

nice views

so pretty

The seven churches home of the burial of St Brandon apparently.

A place in disrepair getting used as a storage unit.

Goats! No sheep on this island just goats and cows! Kinda make the sweater stand silly.

And lastly my lunch mate!

The trip was fun despite my collision. I got at the fort the Heritage Pass for 8 euro go student rate! That allows me to all heritage sites for a year free. I am super excited about it!

Well time for sleep!
