Hokay so... my internship has been epicly disappointing. As I have said before it turned out to be a shop in a mall not a gallery. However, I did make some great connections with one of my coworkers who in the end got me another placement at the Icon Factory. Its way cool, maybe not museum focused but very cool and a project that could help make long term connections here in the Irish art scene. I saw a lot of bad going on at the placement that my program placed me at. Girls getting paid under the table, a revenue audit and some suspicious evasion tactics on the part of the owner. However it was mainly day to day business practices that I could not support. No inventory, no software to process payments and the art was treated badly and placed on the floor with no protection. Its in a hallway and prints were stacked against canvas and other works. The potential for damage was so high and the work space so cramped and dirty. Yesterday I gave in to the OCD and cleaned up and organized what I could and then made the Ipad and laptop connect in the way he wanted and reran the cables that I could. The desk was so much better but not even a thank you today and it was gross. We found nail clippings in the main drawer so we left that alone. The owner is clueless to running a business. The product frames are not great, so everything was just shady and some stuff was just plain weird and he did not want to change anything just focus on selling even it things were damaged.
All in all I was pretty upset that I had spent all this money and while getting credit it was not something to enhance my CV with at the end of the day. So I ask my program if I could switch and brought them with a possible option of my own. They did not seem supported till I laid it all out in detail and even then I left off some of the disturbing stuff and focused on what I had personally seen. They did let me switch so I start anew on Monday! I am truly excited about it and can't wait to get to work. I will get to use a bunch of the skills I have and I think make a mark in the local scene. Regardless it will be better than standing for hours and watching my heart break as artists works are treated badly and being powerless to stop it.
This weekend is going to be awesome as I have tons planned! I am doing The Old Library at Trinity and the Book of Kells, The Kilmainham Goal, Dublin Castle, and then and opening at The White Lady, then sunday a hurling match. Its gonna be a busy weekend but epic!
Also in the second half of the week the sun vanished and I was told that the 2 weeks of summer in Dublin were now over... And the rain started! It did make for some nice pictures before work in Stephens Green...
I love to sit and watch the people. This place is one of my favorites in dublin as it can be sunny or rainy and the calm is there weather filled with people on the grass or empty with only birds to have for company!
Well time for beds!
Cheers!
