Sunday Explorations in Dublin

I actually slept in this sunday till about 10. It was wonderful! I did have a big day planned tho. So after a shower I set out to see some cathedrals and Dublina the Medieval and Viking Museum.

First stop was Dublina. Its kinda corny as you can see from the pictures.   The 3rd floor was the one that had the excavations of viking bodies. So no pictures of course. However it was very eduction and a good place to bring kids to learn about the history. All of my visits today were really close so it was quick to pop over to each one.

You know its gonna be good when it starts out with quality like this!!

So they did have some good reproductions.

Also a cute thing about runes and a station where you could make your name with rubbings! also you better believe I made my name! Just like a little kid! :)

So this guy was not made of wax and was making punched coins like those that may have been used. it was pretty cool although he was very grumpy.

A scale model of old Dublin. Like everyplace has one of various size.. but this one was really cool as the light moved to each section as a voice recording explained different areas.

Bring out your dead!

So very conveniently you get dropped off in the Christ church Cathedral entrance way.... After crossing a bridge. this is the bridge walkway...

I had to walk out and get a front view of the Cathedral. Or try to... its massive!

Also live cats just wander in and on the counter...  It was very irritated that the lady made it move.

Main view as you walk in. Its massive and so beautiful in its decoration. You can really understand the devotion that people had if they attended in a location like this everyday.

stained glass

pulpit, The whole time  I was here the massive pipe organ was being played it was so perfect! Ironically when they cleaned the organ in the mid 1900's they found a mummified cat and rat in one pipe. This is displayed down in the crypts. It made the live cat very ironic...

the best part of this was going in to the underground of the church were the catacombs were. Also very hard to take pictures of .

Treasures of church...

neat stuff not labeled

Costumes from The Tudors... I sunk around and used flash on this one to get the costumes! The show was filmed here in this church for nearly all of its seasons.

More Tombs...

On to St Patricks Cathedral. This is the back from the garden.

First view as I walked in. Crazy ornate.

The light let in from the windows is unreal and makes you feel so small in the building.

looking down the main hall.

Stairs by the organ.

One of the more private worship locations. Just some beautiful architecture.

The archways

Sitting in a pew looking at everything.

Names of people in the Order of St Patrick.

So after a long day of church going and history. It was time for live music, a snack and some cider. I had a yummy Bulmers berry. Very Pink and served over ice. I also had chips and mushrooms oh sooo good and not badly priced. This little guy who looked like the wizard in Wicked was my bartender and so nice to me!

It was such a nice relaxing day to just wonder around! It was hard to go home and work on my assignments for the credit part of my internship. I have been counting my hours so far as with the switch I work less and want to make sure I still make it to the 6 credit mark.
