Slept in, showered played with my new haircut to get it styled right. Read a bit then got ready to go out to the Irish Modern Museum of Art. Modern art is really not my thing. I mean I took a class this past semester on Contemp art starting around the mid 90's. I was not impressed by much of it. However there are some artists who really think about the stuff they are creating and its an interesting look in to the thought process of the modern artist.
With this in mind I turned down Ellen and Jesse and the option to hike in Howth. To the ART!
This was the entrance to IMMA, that I used. Its pretty impressive as you have to walk up a LOOONG driveway for lack of a better term to get to the building. Today there was a special even going on so it opened late at 2pm. But that was okay, more time for sleeping in and being lazy!
As part of the even today the burial grounds were open. I love a good cemetary!
This is the info about the burial grounds incase anyone was interested.
And finally the actual building the IMMA is in! Its pretty impressive! that green topped tower you see on the left is a clock tower and the court yard is huge!
This potato looking piece was pretty cool although no artist explanation. I think modern art should generally have to have an explanation even if its as simple as "I like potatos" Cause this says to me that the artists was dreadfully terrified of his potato overlords so in defiance he hung one in effigy.
This was the first hallway it had some neat stuff but nothing really extraordinary.
So this room I loved! This piece and the one below are by the same artist and it actually reminds me a work that was just in the 897 Square show that I put up for my Gallery at home.
The lighting in here was so dramatic! I love when lighting and a piece of work can work together to create an effect. That is an aspect of Curation that fascinates me. A collaborative effort between curator and artists to maximize statement and effect.
This was a room that was part of a special exhibition by Isabel Nolan called The weakened Eye of Day, The show is her take on how light can be explementary of metaphor for thoughts and actions of everyday life. It was an pretty good exhibit but kinda stuffed into a small space. The impact would have been greater in a more open area.
The gardens however were very pretty despite being the end of the rose season or at least a down inbetween bloomings.
This exhibition of large stones reminded me of one of the student works we showed in my first show at Gallery 76102. His were made of plexi but had also been designed to be outside geometric shapes. These have a better impact though because of the geometric shape being made out of organic material.
So while waiting for the Luas I saw something that boggled my mind. Its cold here to me, its like umm 60 degrees and WINDY! So what would the youth be doing on a sunday afternoon. Why jumping and doing flips (in wet suits so they know its cold) in to the water! It made me cold just to watch! They were doing flips from this high part and their parents were right with them like its a normal thing!! It was so weird and looked like it hurt!
Well after that and a short ride home it was dinner time with pasta and chicken and butter! No veg as Monday is my day to go to the shops after work.
I also got my tour booked for this weekend to many of the Game of Thrones sites in Belfast. The company CIS is taking us to Belfast and Giant's Causeway but we were so close to The Dark Hedges that I could not NOT go see them. The Dark Hedges are the Kings Road in the show. They are 40 min out of Belfast so not far but only a tour will go unless I want a HUGE cab fee. But got that booked and my bus and my hostel. Staying in a huge 23 bunk dorm room, all girls but still that might be even worse! :) It will be a true hostel experience as before this was with people I knew.
Cheers!
