So at the extremely ungodly hour of 7:30am I got up and got ready and made sure my roommate and apartment people got up so we could make it to our pre-planned and paid for day trip to the Wicklow Mtns. and Kilkenny.
I think we were all unprepared for the very startling tour guide who insisted upon being so freaking loud and trying to keep up awake on the bus ride to our first stop. We were also unprepared for a hiking adventure. So slightly hungover and sleepy we ventured forth to see the amazing site of Glendalough. I did get some awesome pictures.
Picture out of the bus as we drove the 2 or so hours to Glendalough.
Sheep! The first sheep I saw while being in Ireland!
More countryside and sheep!
The little river that ran through the Glendalough mtns.
More pretty landscape and the tower that is part of a monastery on the site.
Monastery founded by St Kevin in the 6th Century.
The spooky forest area as we walked to the upper and lower lakes.
Nice grass areas for us to run around in!
Upper Lake
Windy selfie!
more streams that feed the lakes off the mtn.
Classic car parked in the lot. I thought of Les so I had to take a picture!
After a few hours and some needed hydration at the gift shop we were starving!!! So back on the bus for more loud speaking from our guide who told some very abridged and simple history on Henry the VIII and the Reformation. He was not quite right but I suppose he was close enough. After a nap we go to Kilkenny and had time to eat.
I had some wonderful chips and potato leek soup! I love the soup and needed the double serving of potatos! No Judging!
After eating we went to Kilkenny Castle, its a pretty modern castle but had a great collection of neoclassical and romantic works of art. Some were in need of cleaning but overall not bad.
The front gate.
In the tower that I was not supposed to take a picture of. They did not let you take pictures in the castle, it was lame as it would have been okay as long as you did not use flash.
Courtyard
More courtyard and the other side of the front gate.
Rose garden in the back
Back of the castle
I could so live here! :)
Look proof I was there and its not a selfie!
The ride home was full of rain and provided a nice back drop for some sleeping!
