Every once in a while I look around and can't really believe that I am here. Working and living in Dublin. It's mad totally mad. Every since I was a little girl I wanted to study outside of the states. Weather it was a summer program in Australia or a year in Paris. It never really mattered where it was as long as it was not anywhere near my home. Granted, it has taken like 20 years to get here and it's not really studying. Still its brilliant in every way from the gross piss smelling streets to the historic buildings. I have to wonder whether people get used to living in such close proximity to history both recent and hundreds of years ago. I don't think I could every just see it as everyday stuff. I hope that I never will.
This week was a little rainy but it just made the atmosphere of Dublin that much more. I love my flatmates and I could not have asked for a better roommate than Ellen. I can't believe that its halfway over! It has been such a gas working for The Icon Factory. Maybe not what I was looking for initially but the experience has been such a good one with meeting artists and really feeling like I am contributing to helping make Dublin and better place AND meeting local artists and getting involved with the local art scene. Modern art has never really been my thing, however some of the work I have scene here has such classical elements and pulls from so many sources that it really exemplifies how international art has become with the world really becoming smaller due to increased communication.
This week at The Icon Factory, I updated the website with all of the exhibitions from the past and added news articles that were of importance. I have done a lot of Photoshop work and can now build a pretty nice website in Wordpress. I have also been working with a site called BigCommerce that we use to host our online store. Its pretty easy to use and such a tool (only 30 euro a month) could easily help any small gallery looking to sell work or memorabila online. I look forward to next thursday I am going to come in late and work with the gallery at the Temple Bar night market.
Friday was a night out for me. After a yummy meal of pasta and chicken it was supposed to be out to the Celt so some could eat something. They have great soup. But we were late and there were no seats. We ended up walking around for 45 min and ended up at the Merchants Arch. I love this bar. It is a little pricy but the live music they have is always good. We had some food and then some drinks and then a shot. It was Sean, his friend, Caitlin, Emily, me and Shawna. We hung out near the band who did some great reels and of course drunkenly sung a few irish songs. Then we hopped over to the Dark Horse, it was pretty nice, quieter and the drinks were cheaper. After that it was pretty late so it was time to head back home which seemed epicly far away.
All in all a good week of work and play!!!
